The scanning and organizational parts of PaperPort are great, and while there are other programs that do the same, few are as easy to use. To begin with PaperPort can be a little intimidating because it has lots of features and buttons. However, using the Office-style ribbon interface means many users will at least be used to the style.

Each option in the SET tab slows the scanning process a little. Having the program automatically check each page for straightness and orientation, and then enhance it takes time. You sacrifice speed for looks, so for now, leave them unchecked.
One of PaperPort's strongest features is scanning. We just bought a Workcentre 6027 and the feeder to the scanner works just fine when using the control panel or Omnipage 18.1 SE for scanning. However feeder does not activate when using Paperport 14 (we need to scan to pdf). Is there a setting we've missed or is there known issue? Windows 7 SP1. GVTS had purchased a software product called ChartPort, a suite of programs and utilities that facilitates access of scanned patient documents by NextGen EMR (electronic medical records). This product allows customers to scan documents via a custom application that links the Practice Management Software and PaperPort scanning software. GVTS has approximately eight customers using ChartPort.
In fact, GVTS users, scanning personnel in health centre family practices, were spending a lot of their time waiting on PaperPort to scan. Shane Meeks, Systems Programming Manager at GVTS, commented, "It just was not stable, and the speed and efficiency at which people were able to scan was extremely slow."
However, the scanning personnel were dealing with these issues as best as they could. "We were just living with it. We were working longer hours and spending more time on scanning versus other duties," revealed Meeks.
Prior to using Dynamic TWAIN, users spent lots of time scanning documents and were not able to finish the scanning each day. "When I asked, they would say 'I didn't get done with my scanning today so I have to take my pile of papers with me tomorrow to my other health center that I have to work at tomorrow and I'll finish scanning there," explained Meeks.
Since implementing Dynamic TWAIN, development cycles have been dramatically reduced. Meeks confirmed that there has been a 40 percent decrease in scanning time. Meeks noted "For the users that have moved to the new system, they no longer have to take their documents with them anymore because they get all their scanning done at the location where it needs to be completed."

The HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1 Flatbed Scanner ($299.99) is a light-duty yet versatile document scanner that combines a flatbed and a sheet-fed scanner with an automatic document feeder (ADF), so it can scan both delicate or thick items and stacks of paper. It has a good software suite, including a scan utility and drivers, plus document-management, optical-character-recognition (OCR), business-card, and photo-editing programs. Design and FeaturesThe 2500 is fairly compact for a flatbed scanner, measuring 4.8 by 7.8 by 13.8 inches (HWD) and weighing 9.5 pounds, so you might be able to fit it on one side of your desk.
